Erick the bell boy was super friendly and made our stay somewhat pleasant. As we were so unsatisfied with staying here we ended up getting a complementary transfer to our next destination.
The rooms were dated and smelt. The service was super slow especially at poolside - we had to wait over an hour for a fruit plate. The restaurants were not great and the service was bad to average in some restaurants. We even got sick on the second day from staying there so we think it might've been the food. We were so unhappy with our stay that we wanted to check out early and get a refund on the remaining days, but management insisted on us staying and promised us a better experience with tailored set meals and a complementry transfer. I asked for an upgraded room as well but to be honest the room wasn't any better. The air conditioner was leaking, there was a noisy generator above us so we couldn't sleep at night and the towel rail was broken. The room also looked outdated and it needed a good clean. To make matters worse we informed the staff and said they would get someone to look into these issues but nothing ever got fixed. Small nice details were even missing like having 2 bath robes and slippers. This was meant to be one of the top end rooms as well!! The French restaurant we went to that supposedly had a set menu for us pretty much didn't even know we were coming and we ended up ordering off the menu anyway. They only had a salad to offer us which we wanted to steer clear of because we wanted to avoid eating raw foods. We ended up eating the salmon and it was just overcooked and terrible. We also had to ask 3 times for the wine menu and water was never refilled. The waiter serving us looked annoyed the whole time. And to add to all of this the lift stopped working and people had to resort to using the goods lift or the stairs. There were no signs stating it wasn't working and concierge didn't seem to care when informed. This place is not a luxury resort it is more like a 2-3 star resort. If you want luxury do not stay here as it's not worth the money.
We spent 8 days at Sandos Cancún and it was amazing. Especially the friendliness of the staff was incredible, everyone was always ready to help, and always with a smile - I would give 6 stars to the staff if possible. I'd like to thank specifically Nicolle, Bernardino, Sol, and all the staff at reception and concierge in particular (I didn't get everyone's names unfortunately) for making us feel so welcome and ensuring our stay was perfect. The hotel provides great quality for a good price. There is plenty of variety in the food, with multiple restaurants open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I especially liked St Trop restaurant (facing the beach) and the Seasons. The quality of the food was good and the staff outstanding, and always very accommodating. The Japanese restaurant requires a reservation, which you can easily make at concierge. Efrain in particular was amazing and put on a show which was fun, and the food was delicious. On our first night there was also a magician in one of the restaurants, which was awesome and we're still trying to figure out his tricks :) The three infinity pools are the perfect temperature and I loved that they serve drinks while you're in the pool! The animation team does a great job of providing music, quizzes, and other fun things to do. If you want to do day trips and activities, there are also plenty of things you can book through the hotel. I went on the Whale Shark experience which was absolutely amazing and I can definitely recommend - you can book it next to the hotel reception. AquaWorld (a park with water-related activities) also has a lot of things to do and is very close by, and you can book activities next to the pool at the hotel. I would certainly recommend the Jungle Tour with snorkeling. The beach in front of the hotel was nice and clean. The water did have some algae though, so we preferred to swim in the pool.
