The hotel was in a great location, which allowed us to explore the area very easily. It sits above the downtown area of San Ignacio, but it is still within walking distance. If you don't feel like walking, then taxis are cheap. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and the facilities are very comfortable with a great pool and outdoor dining area. The hotel was under construction, which definitely took away from the ambiance. We didn't loud experience any early morning construction, but the hotel wasn't looking its best.
We spent three nights at Gaia in Feb 2013 as part of our honeymoon. It was wonderful. There is a long bumpy (I mean really bumpy) road to get to Gaia, but it is well worth it. You are also staying relatively close to Caracol which is spectacular. Gaia offered a combination tour of Caracol with stops at Rio on Pools and Rio Frio Caves. Our local Mayan tour guide was laid back, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The waterfalls can be seen and heard from the dining room. They are fairly large and have a sandy-bottomed pool to play in. The cabanas are beautiful and the resort kinda feels like you are staying at Rivendale.
